WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
Women’s History Month is a celebration of American women’s contributions to history, culture, and society. It has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987.
Women’s History Month seeks to celebrate women’s achievements and promote women’s equality.
From Abigail Adams to Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth to Rosa Parks, the timeline of women’s history milestones stretches back to the founding of the United States.
This toolkit provides lesson plans, videos, articles, movies, and graphics for American Spaces programs.

KAMALA HARRIS: FIRST WOMAN U.S. VICE PRESIDENT
When Joe Biden won the Presidency, his vice-presidential running mate Kamala Harris made history. By winning the 2020 election, she became both the first woman and the first person of color to be elected vice president of the United States. Before becoming vice president, Kamala Harris was a U.S. Senator from California. She’s the daughter of two immigrant academics, an Indian-American mother and a father from Jamaica. Harris was raised in Oakland and Berkeley, attended Howard University, and pursued a career in criminal justice as a prosecutor before entering politics.
